International Collaboration Task Force
NADD International Task Force co-sponsored the Third Annual Conference on International Social Work which took place on July 10-12, 2009 in Jersey City, NJ. This annual event was co-organized by NADD International Task Force members Dick Edwards from Rutgers University and Robin Mama from Monmouth University. Social workers as far as the Caribbean, England, and Israel participated. Plenary sessions included the US ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, understanding the grieving process and promoting resiliency among victims of terrorism, advancing social work internationally, security and risk assessment, and disaster behavioral health. Individual sessions included presentations on immigration, refugees, international service learning projects, student perspectives on international social work, disaster preparedness, and psychosocial support.
As of April 8, 2010, the new Co-chairs of this Task Force are: Darlyne Bailey and Barbara Shank.

Brief course description:

This course provides a cross-cultural experience in which students will learn about Jamaican culture, human rights, social development, and social welfare. Students explore issues related to social justice, social development, and social welfare, along with the service delivery approaches being used to address the social needs of Jamaicans. Students will visit Jamaican social service agencies in many of the traditional fields of practice (family and children, health, mental health, education, disabilities, and corrections).
