International Collaboration Task Force
Co-chairs of this Task Force are David Skiff and Irene McClatchey.
The main goal of the International Task Force is to gather and disseminate data on innovative and meaningful approaches to international social work education. Task force discussions cover topics such as emerging issues in international education, global field placements, international student and faculty exchanges, international conferences and events, and funding opportunities for international activities. The task force is instrumental in organizing the biennial National Conference on International Social Work.
International Social Work Conference
New York University hosted the 5th NADD Conference on Global Social Work on June 17-20, 2013. The conference focused on building a strong international knowledge base through research and multinational collaborations to create a truly global social work profession. The conference also focused on major global social issues including child and family well-being, women and work, population migration, trauma, and social work’s role in global public health. The program included invited speakers and peer-reviewed presentations.
The 4th International Social Work Conference was held on March 25-27, 2011 at the USC in Los Angeles, CA. The main theme and focus of the conference was on building a global social work profession, as well as policy development on global problems, cross-national and cross-cultural transportability of social work knowledge, skills and experience and social and economic development. Presentations at the 2011 conference were focusing on innovations in teaching, curriculum, research evidence, and exchange of social work skills and knowledge between nations and cultures.
NADD International Task Force co-sponsored the Third Annual Conference on International Social Work on July 10-12, 2009 in Jersey City, NJ. This annual event was co-organized by NADD International Collaboration Task Force members Dick Edwards from Rutgers University and Robin Mama from Monmouth University. Social workers from as far as the Caribbean, England, and Israel participated. Plenary sessions included the U.S. ratification of the Convention on the Rights of the Child, understanding the grieving process and promoting resiliency among victims of terrorism, advancing social work internationally, security and risk assessment, and disaster behavioral health.
